Gallowwalkers is not Blade, so to speak.

Snipes has really slipped into the middle bracket with this film. He tries to make something of it, but he just doesn't get anything to work with. Silly posturing, a lot of tough stuff and meaningless characters who may look reasonably cool but never become threatening.

Furthermore, a few separate scenes that never become whole and a heavy anticlimax make Gallowwalkers a boring film. I don't know if the makers had a serious film in mind, but even as a Grindhouse-like ode this film failed.

Watched with fascination, the dialogues are interesting and occasionally even poetic, it could have been written by John Greenleaf Whittier. The austerity of the scenes and the vast dullness of the dry landscape only makes this film even more fascinating.

Snipes.

Once a good actor with a quite successful career, but now a second-hand actor who only appears in these types of B-movies. I know he's too good for this kind of movie, but oh well. If Snipes enjoys showing up in these kinds of trinkets, that's entirely up to him, not me.

In any case, this Gallowwalkers is based on an interesting concept that is only poorly developed. In this case, the dead rise from the dead and go armed to battle against Snipes, who effortlessly blasts them all back to their own world. Nice material for a simple action film, but in this case it is unfortunately poorly developed.

The location is quite beautiful, but the film itself is not. Director Goth tries to draw his entertainment from various elements, but it is rarely successful. That monster looks uninspired, and the villains are all bland appearances. The murders and shootings lack the graphic support and light-hearted atmosphere, this film simply feels heavier than necessary.

The acting is also quite poor and the general direction is substandard. They try to create fun and unique scenes using some tricks, but I don't think it was successful. Everything in this film feels repetitive, and if the action disappoints you will soon be in for a major setback. Gallowwalkers just doesn't know how to be unique or cool enough.

Because it is still quite enjoyable to watch in the end, I give it a 1.5*, but it didn't exactly turn out that well. Snipes can still be called quite cool and has the right look. The same can't be said for the other cast members, who are all pretty crappy. Mediocre action, boring monsters and opponents and disappointing kills. Gallowwalkers is simply a disappointment.
