A smoothly thrown together video full of "inspiration" and ideas from other Thrillers and Horrors.
Indeed, what you'd call a disappointment. It also reminded me of The Den (2013) and also of App (2013) I even thought the latter was much better. The actors, plot, and cinematography: it's all well below par.
Simon Verhoeven would probably be better off making comedies that also appeal to a different audience; judging by the scores, he's certainly better at that.

Decent horror.
Since I'd seen Unfriended before, I wanted to see another social media horror. This time, Facebook is the victim. Laura Woodson, on Facebook. Again, fairly original from a certain perspective, but the story itself is rather uninspiring.
The "freaky girl" in particular isn't particularly threatening or scary. Her jump scares aren't very effective either. The CGI isn't great either. There are plenty of ineffective moments, and that makes it a bit dull at times. But that's to be positive.
The acting was pretty good, to be honest, but especially the first part. The second part was a bit more awkward. Sometimes the suspense is effective, and Ma Rina's Facebook footage is a good example. Moreover, the Facebook footage is well-crafted and well-executed.
Pretty decent horror movie, nothing special.

Friend Request tries to be a modern horror film that plays on our fear of social media, and that idea is quite relevant in itself. The film has a few quite suspenseful moments, some excellent acting, and the visuals are often sleek and creepy.
Yet, the whole thing doesn't feel particularly convincing. The story is, of course, full of clichés, the dialogue is mediocre, and the supernatural element feels unsatisfying.
A fine film for a Sunday afternoon, but don't expect anything original. I thought The Den was slightly better.
