Really don't like it. The setup is ultimately also very stupid considering the secret behind the game. At no point did the film captivate me in terms of tension, locations, atmosphere, acting, gore... I would say skip it. 2/10

I think anyone who has seen several of DiBlasi's films will agree that he peaked with Last Shift (2014) . A very solid genre film that rose above itself from a simple concept through (fair is fair) competent direction. Everything fell into place... and that's exactly where things go completely wrong here. A director like DiBlasi clearly has it in his fingers, but should be given the opportunity to focus on these kinds of projects more often. Now those lame, meaningless thrillers come in between. Unfortunately, the effect is obvious. Extremity has a classic torture porn setup, but it's packed with alternative ideas that aren't all that great, let alone fit together nicely. The ending makes it clear that a more straight forward / more direct approach works much better. It generally looks neat again, especially within the genre above the norm. If the lack of budget is visible anywhere, it's wmb in the set dressing.

Striking problem; the German DVD release has a mediocre audio mix. I wonder if users here have also experienced this, or if other releases do not have this problem. The voice tracks were generally way too soft.

I liked the revision a little better. Director Anthony DiBlasi is mainly a return to his earlier work, so Extremity is naturally a bit grittier than the average horror film. Constantly reaching for all kinds of background and drama makes little sense, as it mainly makes a tough dinner out of a reasonable concept. The design of the haunt is above average and the finale in particular has some harsh horror images, but in the end it is mainly the overloaded content that brings the whole thing down. Dana Christina plays strongly and gets a lot involved, but DiBlasi sells herself short by constantly switching her character from scared to brutal. I give it a passing grade, but it won't be higher than that.
