Thirteen years after an experiment gone wrong, Dr. Herbert West is incarcerated, where he continues to experiment wildly. When young doctor Howard Phillips, fascinated by West's work, comes to work in prison, West sees his chance to start resuscitating bodies and bring the dead back to life.

More crude and bloody than the previous parts, but there is little more to report in terms of story. Yet it is hardly disturbing; West remains an entertaining character and the almost non-stop filthy scenes are nicely over the top. The stupid and moderately acted characters of the prison director and journalist fit in perfectly.

I give it the same rating as Bride of Re-animator. Yes, this film has a lot more gore than its predecessor, but I found the casting of its predecessor better overall. Here, the "acting" of some is a bit weak, like that vague prison boss and that Spanish-speaking fellow inmate.
Jeffrey Combs succeeds again in portraying the character of Herbert West wonderfully. In addition, they actually manage to keep the film continuously entertaining by a lot of action and crazy experimentation. Nice pulp entertainment, but nothing more.

Certainly not the best film in the series, but extremely entertaining. A prison full of cannon fodder to perform experiments on. Combs is still perfect as Dr. Herbert West who is visited in prison by the brother of a victim of one of West's experiments. The film has a high pace. There is enough going on. One fun and bizarre scene or bad dialogue quickly follows the other. All to offer the audience as much fun as possible. Yuzna succeeds in that. Is it a hell of a good film or a sequel? No. Is it fun? Absolutely. And how often do you see a rat fight with a... .
