What a messy movie, in terms of everything it couldn't grab me and I thought that was a waste of my time. Anyway, I can't make more of it, what is impressive is that it was made for 500,000 dollars and visually you can't see that, ah still a plus

Director Flying Lotus is clearly a fan of films like Alien, The Thing and Event Horizon, but unfortunately he does not have an interesting script. In fact; Ash is a mixed bag, a kind of greatest hits of earlier and better science fiction films. Considering the low budget, mister Lotus comes a long way visually, with nice visual effects and first-class bloody make-up. The cast is also passable. But yes, that script... The first hour is really tough, monotonous and boring. Towards the end, things finally come to life, but by then it is already too late to save things.

Mwah.

The art and soundtrack are okay, the story doesn't have much to offer that hasn't already been done - this SF boldly goes where millions went already and didn't bother to get a t-shirt.

But the real problem, the actors don't play. While they can do better I think - even an Aaron Paul. It must be the direction or production then. Too bad, I was looking forward to a nice fresh movie with Uwais.

Jonni Remmler plunders the “space mission to unexplored planet ends in disaster” subgenre for a sci-fi horror film full of jump scares that are actually fragments of memories from Riya [Eiza González] waking up alone and naturally wondering where everyone else has gone. If you (like me) were hoping that Iko Uwais (The Raid) was on board to shake things up, you’ll be disappointed: he only gets a few minutes of screen time. Flashy montages of “scary” images don’t make a good horror film; for that you need a decent story and some suspense.
