The Adding Machine plot

After years of loyal service, a hard-working employee is replaced by a machine just before his upcoming promotion. This causes something inside him to snap, causing him to kill his boss. When he is found guilty after a trial and sentenced to death, he is convinced that he is going to hell. However, he ends up in a kind of heavenly waiting room, where he and fellow sufferers are waiting to be assigned a new life on earth.
