Missing Link plot

In this adventurous children's film with animation fragments, Rick is the 11-year-old protagonist who grows up in the Netherlands in the 1950s with his mother and aunt. He never knew his father, because according to his mother he died during WWII as an RAF pilot. At school, the imaginative Rick becomes fascinated by the explorers in Congo. He immerses himself in dark Africa and studies the evolution of man in an old atlas of his mother. Someone has scribbled the words 'missing link' on it. When he reads in the newspaper that an expedition team will travel to Congo to find the missing link in evolution, Rick tries to find the expedition leader, convinced they are looking in the wrong place.
