Der Eisenhans plot
East German adaptation of the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm: Eisenhans protects the forest and the animals that live there and thus stands in the way of the hunting-hungry king. The king orders a black hunter to capture Eisenhans. When this succeeds, the king threatens anyone who wants to free Eisenhans with death. However, his son, Prince Joachim, ignores this order and frees Eisenhans. They return together to the forest, where Eisenhans teaches Joachim to survive in nature. When Joachim fails, he goes to a neighboring king's castle to work there. He falls in love with Princess Ulrike, but because of the black hunter, danger threatens again. The hunter wants to conquer the now impoverished kingdom of Joachim's father. Joachim begs Eisenhans for help.
