Allie, a young and shy librarian who has just lost her mother, comes into contact with Charlie Riggs through a friend. She is impressed by his smooth talk. In search of security and love, Allie marries Charlie. She soon discovers that she has married a windbag, whose beautiful promises all turn out to be empty.
