Without Permission plot

An exiled Iranian director returns to his homeland to work on a new film, but the authorities refuse him permission to film. Undeterred, he decides to capture the voices of the next generation living in a society where mandatory hijab and censorship are part of everyday life. In the ruins on the edge of a desert, he gathers boys and girls who dream of becoming actors and begins conducting camera tests. With simple questions, he gently probes the depths of their inner world.
