Viktoria plot
Viktoria is born - without an umbilical cord - against the will of her mother, who did not want to bear a child in communist Bulgaria. After having the baby she tried to abort, her life's dream to flee to the West is almost hopeless. In addition, Viktoria becomes a symbol of the communist regime that her mother detests. Because of her abnormality, the navelless girl is proclaimed 'baby of the future' and grows up in socialist luxury. Until the day the Eastern bloc collapses and mother and daughter are confronted again.
