Vanina Vanini plot
A young patriot fighting for the unity of Italy in the 19th century is on the run from the authorities. He falls in love with a princess but lets his ideals take precedence over love. The princess is hurt by this and betrays him, but she regrets and then tries to save the life of her beloved.
