Unchained plot
"What keeps them from crashing out?"
The prison administration in Chino, California, has taken an innovative approach compared to other prisons. They strive for a humane approach to the prisoners, there are no armed guards, people are not locked in a cell and no uniform clothing is worn. The underlying philosophy is that with this approach the prisoners do not want to escape and they want to accept their conviction. The film follows the arrival of new 'resident' Steve Davitt and how he deals with the alternative policies of this prison in Chino.
