Train to Pakistan plot
The village of Mano Marja is located on the border of India and Pakistan. The film is set during the period of secession after India gains independence. Through the eyes of Hukum Chand, the district magistrate, the uprising experienced by the residents is shown. Sikhs and Muslims live in harmony in the village until a train full of dead arrives from Pakistan. Refugees also enter the village from the border. The government plans to evacuate Muslims from the village to Pakistan to ensure their safety, even against the wishes of the Sikh villagers.
