"A man sentenced death for stealing two cars looks to avoid execution in China"
North China, 1997, a criminal named Qiu Wu is sentenced to death for stealing two cars. The lead judge, Judge Tian, has just lost his daughter in a tragic traffic accident – she was hit by a stolen car. A change in the law gives Qiu Wu the opportunity to escape his execution. At the same time, Qiu Wu tries to ease his sentence by offering one of his kidneys for donation. In this way, he gives wealthy businessman Lee the chance to survive his terminal illness. Lee begins to pay Qiu Wu's family and tries to bend the system to secure the kidney. But he won't be able to secure the kidney until after Qiu Wu's execution — an execution now being called into question following recent changes to the law. Judge Tian faces a tough decision.
