Tod oder Freiheit plot
Fritz von Buttlar, descendant of an ancient noble family, rebels against the monarch's rule and is forced to flee into the woods with his comrades in arms. In order to compete against the tyrannical monarch, the men form a band of robbers, led by Fritz. Meanwhile, his great love Maria tries to resist the advances of Fritz' despotic brother Ludwig.
