Friendly producer Julian Forbes helps beautiful young Susan become a major Broadway star. Meanwhile, the two fall in love and they decide to get married. Unfortunately, on the way to City Hall, the groom-to-be has a traffic accident and Julian has been permanently paralyzed ever since. Yet Susan remains faithful to him and the marriage continues. After nine years, Susan wants to adopt a child. Everything seems to have been arranged for the adoption, but then a young widower Brewster claims the child. Susan has an affair with Brewster shortly after their first meeting. When Julian finds out, he wants to prevent Susan from having a happy future.
