The Surface plot
Evan Jones is an orphaned child who was moved from one foster home to another for years. Now he is a disgruntled student who lives with his wealthy friend Chris. Their social and financial inequality affects their relationship, despite their mutual love for each other. While rummaging through a sale of an elderly man's old gear, Evan finds an old 8mm camera. The man offers to teach Evan how to use the camera, provided he returns the following week. The week later, Evan meets Peter, the elderly man's 43-year-old son. Together they start to watch old self-made films.
