The Painting plot
"Two worlds. One love. Turbulent times."
The sixties of the last century, a turbulent time in America. The Kennedys provide hope and a new impetus, but America remains a divided country that still struggles with a past of racial discrimination. It is also the time when Randy Barrington grows up. The son of a wealthy industrialist, he is destined to succeed his father. His father is a widower who raises his son on his own. He tries to pass on his own conservative ideas and so prepare his son for the big job: leading the family empire. He means well, but takes too little time to really get to know his son. Fortunately, Randy can always turn to Thomas Ayers, the family's driver and Randy's second father. Yet there is always a certain distance between them. That changes when Thomas takes Randy home to introduce him to his sister, his uncle and especially his cousin Hallie. It's love at first sight. But Randy doesn't see the dangers of a love affair between black and white. Randy is enlisted and sent to Vietnam, where he becomes a hero. But the price he has to pay for that is high...
