The Hard Way plot
"You'd never believe they're sisters!"
Ambitious Helen Sherman forces her talented younger sister Katie to marry retiring singer and dancer Albert Runkel so that both women can leave the dirty factory town in which they live. However, Runkel's partner Paul Collins sees through Helen's plan. Helen continues to direct her sister's career, however, and Katherine eventually becomes a Broadway star, while Runkel and Collins' career continues to decline. Runkel kills himself, unable to keep up with the success of Katie and Helen's efforts.
