The 13th Commandment plot
"Thou shalt not"
Disappointed by the fleeting nature of wealth when her father's bank balance can no longer support their family's lavish lifestyle, and when her fiancé, Clay Wimborn, admits he went into debt to lavish her with gifts, Daphne Kip decides to become financially independent. Her determination is strengthened by her brother Bayard's marriage to an extravagant choir girl, after which Daphne chooses her own path. Initially, she tries to make her name on the stage, but that doesn't work. Daphne then opens a lingerie shop and breaks off her engagement to Clay, who then heads west.
