Stingaree plot
"With the world at her feet, she threw away gold and glory to be crushed in his lawless arms."
Australia, around 1870. After the death of her parents, Hilda Bouverie was orphaned and left homeless. She is now a maid in the home of the Clarksons, the wealthiest family in the county. Hilda is happy with a roof over her head and three meals a day, but she's only really happy when she gets the chance to sing with her beautiful voice. Mr. Clarkson is kind and encouraging to her, but his wife is an old tang, who treats Hilda and her other maid Annie like slaves. Mrs. Clarkson is especially jealous of Hilda, because she herself aspires to a singing career.
