Splinters plot
Belle has returned home to rural Nova Scotia for her father's funeral. As a teenager, she came out but never reconciled with her conservative mother, Nancy. Amid the family's grief, Nancy's disapproval of Belle hangs like a dark cloud in the sky. Belle fails to tell her family that she has been dating a man named Rob for the past two years. She is reluctant to rekindle her mother's traditional expectations after her hard-won battles to confirm her identity. But the secret gets harder to hide when Rob shows up as the supportive friend.
