Soekarno Blues plot

Semi-biographical story in which the main character, director Hans Hylkema, goes in search of the historical past of Indonesian president Soekarno. Hylkema discovers a film in the archive of the Theater Institute in which President Soekarno stars in a play he wrote himself, performed at the Tropeninstituut. Disbelief everywhere, because officially the president has never been to the Netherlands. Then follows a reconstruction of Soestdijk's best-kept secret: the undisclosed visit of Soekarno to Queen Juliana in the spring of 1949. In the form of a documentary, historical archive material and fictional play frame the discovery of Soekarno's self-written play. The story of a charismatic leader who loved his country, people, women, art and above all himself.
