Naive 16-year-old girl Maddy tries to reinvent herself to impress the boys in her small Texas hometown. She lives alone with her sick grandmother in a dilapidated farmhouse. Her grandmother does not talk and is in a wheelchair. She does her best to take care of her, but life at home is lonely and depressing. In her spare time she goes to the roller skating rink, where no one sees her. Every boy is obsessed with the blond voluptuous Jolee, whom Maddy looks up to. Then she is suddenly approached by a stranger from outside the village.
