"Can any man ask one woman to share his years of struggle- Another to adorn his days of triumph?"

The hapless prospector Yates Martin dreams of great wealth. Although he has several honorary jobs, these yield nothing for him. He starts a trade in provisions for gold miners, which, however, goes bankrupt. When two prospectors find silver, they let the bankrupt Martin share in their wealth, because he once gave them credit. His popularity and wealth threaten to go to his head afterwards...
