Lyle Mollencamp is an alcoholic. His wife Joyce does everything to keep this misery within the family. Their eldest two children react differently. 8-year-old Brian is protected as much as possible and kept out of trouble. This goes well until Lyle loses his job due to his drinking problem. For his eldest son, this is the straw that breaks the camel's back.
