Party Wire plot

"Burning the scandal at both ends!"

The unmarried Matthew Putnam owns a milk parlor in a small town. He falls in love with Marge, daughter of favorite city dweller Will Oliver. Marge's former lover Roy Daniels then dejectedly leaves town, leaving behind a church in debt, which Marge must pay out of her own pocket. She therefore calls Roy and complains about the financial mess he left behind for her. However, a curious neighbor overhears this conversation and spreads the rumor that Marge and Roy are having a love affair.
