Mary, a young British woman becomes a governess to a wealthy Argentine family. From her position, she sees the influence of the wealthy aristocrats slowly crumbling. At the same time, fascim is slowly emerging at first, but later on there is a whole popular movement that wants to take over power. This greatly affects Mary and the family where she works.
