Mariam plot

In Zhanash, a remote village on the steppe of Kazakhstan, Mariam lives with her husband and four children in a simple house without water and light. One day her husband goes missing, but for lack of a body he cannot be pronounced dead, leaving Mariam ineligible for state aid. These circumstances force her to take her fate into her own hands in order to survive.
