During the Korean War, Matt Jameson saves the life of his buddy Vince Biskay. Vince promises Matt that one day he will thank him in the form of a million dollars. Eight years later, Matt finds herself in the midst of a rapidly deteriorating marriage to the man-hungry and alcoholic Nina. Then Vince suddenly reappears for another meeting with Matt. He tells him that enemies of a dictator from a Central American country have stolen 3.5 million dollars and that he knows how to get that money. He will then share the big reward with Matt, but then he has to help him find the stolen money. Matt is skeptical, but after a particularly heated argument with Nina, he decides to go with Vince.
