John and Tilly are happily married. But when Tilly's father discovers that John's mother has a bad past, he manages to take Tilly away from him. John, who doesn't realize that, thinks Tilly doesn't want him anymore and leaves town. Tilly's father tells her that John was killed in an accident and wants her to marry someone else.
