Love and Glory plot

Pierre Dupont and Anatole Picard are inhabitants of a small French village. In 1869 both take part in the war in Algeria, together with Jules Malincorne. Gabrielle Picard, Anatole's sister and Pierre's lover, stays behind. Jules shoots himself in the foot so he can return to the village, where he falsely tells Gabrielle that both Pierre and Anatole are dead. But when the enemy shows up, Jules kidnaps Gabrielle and takes her to Paris.
