Reggie is a 12-year-old child prodigy who lives in a castle in New York. He is surrounded by wealth but leads a lonely life because his parents are often away. Eleanor is a young musician who is having trouble with her boyfriend and has recently been fired. She has no place to live anymore. In a desperate attempt to find work, she ends up with Barbara, Reggie's mother, and is hired to care for the boy. She is surprised by his intelligence but also worried about his strange behavior. Little by little, they get to know each other until an emergency forces Eleanor to visit her family.
