Lettres du Bagne plot

The Devil's Islands in French Guiana are a place where for a century, between 1852 and 1946, French criminals were deported for forced labor in a penal colony. A former convict, Jean-Marie, who, at the sight of his death, asks his daughter Anne-Marie to come from France to his deathbed in South America. The woman believes that her dead father wants to tell more about his sad and unhappy life experiences. When she has to go through Jean-Marie's 'green hell', it takes her breath away.
