Lady and Gent plot

The boxer Stag Bailey is an aging prize fighter. After Stag loses his last game to popular newcomer Buzz Kinney, his manager Pin Streaver is killed in a robbery. Like it or not, Stag and his drinking establishment girlfriend Puff Rogers feel responsible for Pin's son Ted Streaver. Growing up, Ted has built a strong bond of trust with Stag and Puff. However, they try to discourage him from following in his adoptive father's footsteps.
