Kazaki plot

The young idealist, Dmitriy Olenin, leaves Moscow in hopes of building a new life in a Cossack village in the Caucasus. He befriends the old Cossack, Eroshka, with whom he likes to hunt. And he falls in love with Maryanka, a beautiful Chechen lady, but she has to marry Luka, a local Cossack. Dimitriy puts a stop to himself and wants to be friends with both Maryanka and Luka. He even gives Luka a horse to give him status so he can get married.
