Hua Hun plot
In the early 20th century, Yu-Liang leaves a brothel in a small Chinese town to find Mr. to become a pan. During Pan's absence during the Yunnan revolution, Yu-Liang learns to paint and attends art school in Shanghai, until it is closed for painting nude models. Pan leaves Yu-Liang for his first wife because she cannot bear him a son. Yu-Liang leaves for Paris to study art and wins a prize for a nude self-portrait. She returns to Nanking in the 1930s and also rejoins Pan. She becomes an art professor until her past as a prostitute is discovered.
