Hashino nai Kawa plot

Komori is a poor village adjacent to Osaka that consists of people from a discriminated minority 'unclean people'. They live from agriculture and from making sandals. The people of Komori cannot marry whomever they want and cannot get a job. Despite all this, Seitaro and Koji grow up carefree and stay cheerful, thanks to their mother's care and upbringing. Then Komori burns to the ground and the fire brigade in the city ignores this and doesn't even take action, because: 'it's just Komori!' The villagers then decide to save themselves for a fire hose.
