Gunpowder, Treason & Plot plot

When the beautiful young Catholic Queen Mary returns from France to claim the Scottish throne, she finds herself in a divided, lawless country where murder and mayhem are rampant. The 19-year-old fights for recovery, for unity and freedom of faith, but she has to face a group of treacherous nobles who are after power. Unable to raise an army, Mary eventually has to surrender to James and the Protestants. She manages to save her lover Lord Bothwell and her only son James, but the cruel fate of life incarceration herself befalls her.
