Gold Is Not All plot

An opera singer insists, against her doctor's advice, on singing one more performance to earn enough to complete the trust fund she wants to set aside for her child. The effort proves too much, and she dies on stage. Her brother, who has become the child's guardian, is driven mad by the enormous sum of money in his hands and hides with the child and the money in a rented house, where the child is effectively being held captive.
