Für 'n Groschen Brause plot
Leipzig, in Germany's eastern occupation zone after World War II, where the Russians are in control and a puppet government of overzealous communists is allowed to call the shots. Although Thomas (Bernd Benneck) loves his city and country because he grew up there, many people don't like the communist dictatorship. The family business - which feeds his mother, stepfather, grandfather, grandmother and himself - is now threatened with expropriation. It must be converted into an inefficient VEB (Volks Eigenes Betrieb). Anyone who can flee to the free West, but Thomas hesitates, because just then he has fallen head over heels in love.
