Fridericus plot
Otto IV has allied himself with England, while Frederick II supports the French king. France is victorious, after which Frederick II is inaugurated as Roman King of Germany and Emperor. The medieval people call Frederick II "Stupor Mundi", the wonder of the world. As Federico I of Sicily, he prefers to reside in Palermo. He inherited this island from his Norman mother. Frederick II is less dismissive of Muslims than other Western monarchs, possibly inspired by the mixed culture of Arab, Norman, Greek and Latin elements that colors his island. Forced to embark on a crusade, in 1229 he succeeds in conquering Jerusalem by negotiation.
