Framed plot

During the First World War, Captain Etienne Hilaire is court-martialed in the French army for crimes he did not commit. Filled with disgust, Hilaire leaves for Brazil to start a new life, but there has a disastrous affair with the local vamp Moora. Hilaire later becomes a diamond mine foreman, where he falls in love with Diane, the daughter of diamond mine director Alphonse Laurens. Hilaire, however, is wrongly blamed for a theft of diamonds.
