"When the fire's out... the heat is on."
Shelly Forsythe is a dark-skinned firefighter who is offered a spot at a station where his predecessor died in a fire started by black youths. He is the only black firefighter on this station and gets to do the most horrible things. When his colleagues think he deliberately let go of one of the boys responsible for the deadly fire, the already explosive situation only gets worse.
