Finale plot

Hanna marries, against her father's wishes, the young, promising pianist Michael Reimers, who is a rising star in the world of classical music. But then war breaks out and he goes to the front as a soldier. One day he is injured in his right hand and is operated on by Dr. Thomas Benninghoff, the man his father-in-law had in mind for his daughter. Michael learns that he will never be able to play the piano again and, disillusioned, travels to his mother.
