Engelchen plot
Engelchen plays in the drab-looking and worn-out district around Ostkreuz station in Berlin. Ramona Schneider (Susanne Lothar) is a never-dreaming, lonely woman who works on a lipstick factory assembly line. At home she has to make do with the company of a caged bird and on rare occasions she meets her half-criminal half-sister Lucie. On the steps of the station, Ramona is suddenly embraced by the Pole Andrzej and kissed for the first time in her life. This young man trades cartons of cigarettes on the black market and uses the kiss to avoid a police raid at the station. Ramona feels she has met her knight and seems to blossom for the first time; a vague sense of zest for life comes over her.
