Eden plot
The young, ambitious Jewish businessman Kaplan leaves his old father in Europe in 1939 to go to his sister Samantha in Palestine. Although the father admires his daughter's idealism, he warns his son about the dangers in this powder keg. When he arrives, he meets the partner of Samantha Dov, an inspired architect obsessed with the work of the Bauhaus school. In her spare time, Samantha helps Professor Oscar Kalkofsky. His vision of a future Israeli state is based on cooperation between Jews and Arabs. Another member of this group is Sylvia, she vehemently resists amalgamation. All five have different visions about Israel's future at a time when World War II is about to break out.
