Doing Life plot

Two police officers are shot dead and Jerry is identified as the culprit. He disappears under lock and key to await the death penalty. When a fellow inmate is executed, Jerry decides not to just accept his fate. He throws himself into law school. His parents, his fellow inmates and the management do not support him in the least, but Jerry studies diligently. In the end, he manages to commute his death penalty to life imprisonment. Jerry also uses his skills for the benefit of other suspects.
