Der Czardas-König plot

On his father's estate on the Plattensee, young Emmerich Kálmán lives a carefree life until he is ten. Then his father loses his entire fortune, and after his death the family in Budapest has to earn a living. Emmerich earns the money for his studies at the conservatory by playing the piano in a nightclub. There he meets the tenor Janos Hegedüsh who, together with Laszlo Szegedy, turns out to be a lifelong friend. Janos and Szegedy follow Kálmán to Vienna, where the composer celebrates great triumphs.
